Student Review Process

Due to the demanding nature of elementary school teaching, the IEE major requires a 3.0 GPA from its students. Students will be required to pass a sophomore grade review after the midway point of their sophomore year, and a junior review portfolio at the midway point of their junior year in order to pass on to student teaching and licensure.

Policy regarding Inclusive Elementary Education majors who cannot student teach

IEE students who have reached their junior or senior year and cannot student teach either because they do not meet the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement, or another issue arises, will substitute student teaching with an internship that is designed by the student and their departmental advisor. This allows the students to still complete their degree, but will not be recommended for teaching certification.

Content Core

In addition, students must take classes of their choice in the following departments:

- Two (2) ENGL Courses
- Two (2) MATH Courses
- Two (2) Social Studies (ANTH, ENSS, HIST, POSC, RELS) Courses
- Two (2) Science Courses (BIOL, GEO, CHEM, PHYS, ENSS)
- Two (2) Additional Courses in Liberal Arts

Field Experience Requirements

Students will complete at least 250 hours of field experience integrated into education coursework prior to student teaching.
