About the Program
As part of Hartwick’s FlightPath Core curriculum, all students are required to complete two Wellness experience credits during their time at the College. These experiences promote the development of lifelong physical and mental well-being and are a foundational element of the FlightPath approach to holistic education.
The Wellness program offers an inclusive, flexible, and student-centered curriculum designed to support a broad range of personal wellness goals. Courses include activities such as yoga, mindfulness, hiking, strength and conditioning, outdoor recreation, dance, and health education, among others. These experiences help students build resilience, manage stress, and cultivate self-awareness and balance.
Students may satisfy the requirement by enrolling in approved Wellness-designated courses or, in the case of student-athletes, by completing two full seasons of intercollegiate athletic participation (one season = one Wellness credit). Athletic participation is transcripted using the PHED (Physical Education) subject code and includes the name of the sport, providing students with a formal record of their engagement.
Courses are taught in a variety of settings, with primary instruction taking place in the Campbell Fitness Center and the Hutman Studio. Additional on-campus facilities, such as the outdoor trail system and select spaces in the Binder Physical Education Center, may also be used as appropriate for specific course offerings.
