EDUC 372 Lyceum

The course covers NYSED requirements as listed below: Substance Abuse Mini-course (required by NYSED) Violence Prevention Mini-course (required by NYSED) Child Abuse Mini-course (required by NYSED) Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) Training (required by NYSED).  In addition to meeting NYSED requirements, this course examines distinct areas necessary for effective educators: creating a positive learning environment, behavioral management, and student engagement, assessment, and evaluation. This class will explore a variety of different methods to engage students and decrease student misbehavior, assess and evaluate student performance, and recognize causes and behaviors associated with student classroom actions which often involve hidden dynamics occurring in the lives of our students. This seminar style course will utilize articles, case studies, discussions and videos to explore methods for effective teaching. By the end of this course, students should be able to plan engaging and aligned units/lessons, design authentic assessments, analyze and draw conclusions from assessment data, describe effective behavioral management strategies, and discuss methods by which teachers can create positive learning environments.
