High School Transcripts
Proof of High School Graduation
Students must provide proof of high school graduation, or equivalent, to be admitted to Hartwick College. Additionally, a final High School transcript is required to facilitate the financial aid disbursement process. Hartwick considers the following documents to serve as proof of secondary school graduation
- A final high school transcript submitted directly from the student’s school. We will not accept a high school transcript submitted by the student. The final high school transcript must show the date of graduation. For students in a curriculum where national examinations or other certification signifies completion of high school those documents will be required as proof of graduation.
- If your high school operates on a different schedule and you cannot submit your graduation certificate or final exam results by the deadline stated on your admissions portal, we are happy to grant an extension.
- Students who are submitting final exam results as proof of graduation should ensure that these results are sent to us as soon as they have been released, and provide official certificates as soon as these are available.
- Results from the General Education Development (GED) Test. Students may submit GED results in lieu of a final high school transcript. Students can take the GED Test almost anywhere in the United States and Canada and internationally at any of the 3,400 Official GED Testing Centers. More information about obtaining a GED.
- Original or officially certified copies of nationally recognized high school graduation examination results, such as the Advanced Level General Certificate of Education or the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Hartwick reserves the right to request that a student submit an evaluation or authentication of their final transcript or examination results by an educational credential evaluation service.
- Admitted homeschooled students must either be able to provide evidence of a homeschool diploma, a certificate of completion that is considered the equivalent of a high school diploma in the applicant's home state, or they must complete and submit results of their GED test prior to enrollment at Hartwick.
For students who graduated from high school in the United States, final transcripts may be submitted in the following ways:
- Uploaded through the Common Application website by a school official.
- Sent directly to Hartwick through an electronic delivery service such as Parchment or National Student Clearinghouse.
- Mailed to Hartwick College, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, One Hartwick Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820, USA. All mailed transcripts and other proof of graduation documents, however, should bear an official stamp and signature and be mailed from a student's school in a sealed envelope.
- Emailed to transcripts@hartwick.edu. Emailed documents must include a graduation date, must come from a school official, and must be sent from an official school email address.
Failure to Provide Proof of High School Graduation
Under this policy, students who have been admitted as regular students but have not yet submitted their high school transcript or equivalent can receive Title IV financial aid for one term. These students are conditionally admitted for Title IV purposes. If the student fails to provide a final transcript before the start of their second term (excluding January), they will no longer be considered enrolled as a regular student and will not be eligible for any further Title IV aid disbursements. However, if any Title IV funds were already disbursed during the period when the student was conditionally admitted, neither the student nor the school is required to return those funds.
