English Major with Emphasis in Writing Requirements

Minimum of 20 courses, distributed as follows:

*PLEASE NOTE: The English major, Creative Writing major, and English with an Emphasis in Writing major have changed, beginning in AY ’20 – ’21.  Faculty advisors will work with Class of 2021, 2022, 2023 graduates to determine equivalencies with the former English, Creative Writing, and English with an Emphasis in Writing majors.

One gateway course

*Any one 300/400-level course can fulfill only one of the open 300/400-level course requirements (i.e., an “Author emphasis” course cannot also fulfill a “Genre emphasis” course requirement; a “Culture emphasis” course cannot also fulfill an “Author emphasis” course requirement).

 

One Praxis/Practicum Course

*Class of 2021, 2022, and 2023 Majors may, in consultation with their faculty advisor, substitute a course—including a non-ENGL-department course—that is demonstrably a “praxis/practicum” course, i.e., and applied-knowledge course.
