EDUC 504 Collaboration and Advocacy
This course explores collaboration as a cornerstone of effective and inclusive educational practice. Candidates examine strategies for building partnerships among general and special educators, families, administrators, and community agencies to support diverse learners. Through case studies, simulations, and applied projects, students analyze the interpersonal, cultural, and systemic factors that influence collaboration and advocacy. Emphasis is placed on communication, ethical decision-making, and the educator’s role as an advocate for equity and student voice within and beyond the classroom. The purpose of this course is to prepare graduate students to engage in effective collaboration and advocacy within complex educational environments. Candidates will examine how relationships, communication, and institutional structures shape the ability to support diverse learners. Emphasis is placed on developing the skills necessary to navigate professional interactions, build meaningful partnerships, and advocate for equitable educational practices. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to work collaboratively across roles and contexts while acting as informed and ethical advocates for students and communities. Offered in Fall.
