ART 371 Intermediate Ceramics: Wheel Throwing

This course is an introduction to the process and skills of wheel throwing and its various applications (including wedging, centering, throwing, and trimming) and will build upon the knowledge gained in ART 271. By exploring the wheel as a tool, students will create work in a variety of contexts both sculptural and functional while expanding their knowledge of clay, glazes, and firing techniques. Students will develop political fluency and learn to communicate effectively by analyzing historic and contemporary ceramics through lectures, research and discussion. Participants will engage in constructive debate through regular written and verbal critiques. Offered yearly, suitable for non-majors. Offered yearly.
