Online Course Sharing Consortium

Acadeum Credit

The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) is a membership organization open to small and mid-sized private liberal arts colleges in the US and beyond. One service of the CIC is Acadeum.

Courses taken via the CIC Consortium are reviewed by Hartwick faculty and the Registrar’s Office to determine equivalency with Hartwick courses. While faculty approval ensures academic alignment, the final decision regarding credit approval and the number of credits awarded rests with the Registrar. When grades for courses taken through Acadeum are transferred back to Hartwick College, they are recorded on the student’s transcript with the equivalent Hartwick College course code and name, and the grade is used to calculate the student’s GPA according to Hartwick College policy. If you are a Hartwick student interested in enrolling in an Acadeum course, please follow the directions on this website.

The following guidelines govern registration in Acadeum courses:

  • Students must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 Hartwick credits) during the Fall or Spring term in which they wish to take an Acadeum course.

  • A $100 per credit fee applies for Acadeum courses in Fall and Spring

  • Overload fees may also apply as outlined in the Catalog

  • This fee is not covered by Tuition Remission or Exchange.

  • Students may take one Acadeum course per Fall or Spring term, with a maximum of 12 total Acadeum credits during those terms over their undergraduate career.

  • Acadeum courses may not be taken during January Term, unless the course overlaps with the Spring term and the student is enrolled in Spring courses. Students may not double up or overload with an Acadeum course during January alone.

  • Acadeum courses taken in Summer do not count toward the 12-credit limit and are billed at the standard Hartwick summer tuition rate.

  • Courses outside the consortium may carry additional fees (this will be clearly noted when searching for a course in Acadeum).

  • When your course is complete, the offering institution will communicate a grade through the CIC to the Hartwick Registrar’s Office, which will enter it on your record. The final decision regarding the awarding of credit and the grade’s impact on the GPA rests with the Registrar, in compliance with Hartwick College policies.
