SOCI 325 Policing and Corrections

This course is designed to provide students with an in depth look at policing in America and current correctional systems. The first half of the course focuses on the origins of policing and the current role of police in today's criminal justice system. The process of becoming a police officer and the daily functions of the police are discussed while paying particular attention to potential problems within policing. The second half of the course focuses on current correctional systems in America, the problems faced within these systems, and alternatives to imprisonment. Prerequisite: SOCI 285 or SOCI 105.
