HIST 248 Vietnam War
Course examines Vietnam War as a Cold War, with a strong emphasis on U.S. foreign relations over the course of the Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon/Ford administrations. In discussing combat, the emphasis is on the experiences of the "grunts" on the battlefield, including Tim O'Brien's book, The Things They Carried. Who fought/who didn't will be considered. The War at Home (i.e., anti-war protests) and the intersection of the Vietnam War and Civil Rights/Black Power Movements will be examined, especially Rev. Martin Luther King's opposition to the war.
