HIST 104 Race & Ethnicity in Amer Hist

This course is a survey of the dynamic of race and ethnicity from the colonial era to the present day. Topics include: Native Americans and the project of colonization; the rise of slavery and the birth of African American culture; race and republican citizenship; the politics of "whiteness," labor and immigration; the operation of a black/white racial binary in a multiethnic society; the rise of scientific racism; and strategies of opposition and resistance.
