VISC 102 Intro to Visual Culture II
Human beings have been communicating with images for at least 65,000 years using methods that include drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, clothing, furniture, photography, film, advertising, games, and virtual reality. Visual Culture is a field of inquiry that analyzes images in order to understand the ways that they inform and persuade us. It is an historically-informed critical analysis of the relationship between images and the culturally diverse individuals and communities that produce and make use of them. In this course, we will explore how humans across the planet have conveyed meaning visually, from approximately 1300 CE through the present day. No prerequisite.
