SOCI 276 Women in Criminal Justice
This course will provide an overview of women’s involvement in the criminal justice system as victims, suspects, offenders and criminal justice professionals. We will examine current patterns and practices of law enforcement, criminal courts and corrections relative to women as offenders, victims and employees. As well as explore the relationship between gender and crime and how gender impacts the experiences and involvement in the criminal justice system. Additionally, we will examine theories on women’s victimization and criminality, as well as Laws and their effects on the rights of women in the criminal justice system. The course will finish up with case studies of famous female offenders and their involvement in the criminal justice system.
