ENSS 160 Intro to Environmental Studies

This course investigates major contributions of the social and natural sciences to our understanding of how and why environmental problems happen. Environmentally harmful human behavior is not simply a fact of life, but a product of social conditions that can be studied, understood, and changed. We will examine approaches to resolving environmental problems, including individual and group-based strategies, such as reducing carbon footprints and public policy initiatives, and social movements that promote environmental justice and sustainable development. Students will apply conceptual approaches to the root causes and consequences of, and solutions to, specific environmental issues.
