ARTH 206 History of Chinese Imperial Art
This lecture course is an introduction to the arts and culture of Imperial China from the Shang through the Qing dynasties. Special attention will be paid to the place of the arts (architecture, sculpture, calligraphy, painting, ceramics, bronzes, jades and other decorative arts) in Chinese society and, whenever possible, to the artists themselves. The arts will be examined in the context of Chinese history which will comprise a portion of the course. Offered every other year.
