POSC 265 Peacekeeping and Security
Peace and security is one of the most important topics in political science. Millions of people today are negatively impacted by lack of peace and security in their country or their region. Peacekeeping is one of the most important functions of the UN to help achieve peace and security around the world. Researchers find that peacekeeping decreases the likelihood of war reignition and saves many lives and helps build long-lasting peace. This course examines UN peacekeeping cases in the Middle East and North Africa, Southeast Asia, and other parts of the world. Students will learn to explore the evolution of peacekeeping operations, the challenges to peacekeeping operations, the motivations behind different states' contributions to UN peacekeeping and the effects of UN peacekeeping on regional order and international security.
