NURS 234 Medical-Surgical Nursing I
Integrates knowledge from the humanities and sciences into the holistic and informed care of patients with select medical surgical problems. Introduces students to the physical, psychological, and socio-cultural aspects of illness as experienced by the adult client; in particular, the effects of aging are stressed. The use of evidence-based practice, critical thinking and clinical problem solving skills necessary to provide holistic care to adult and aging clients experiencing common health problems are emphasized. Therapeutic communication skills, therapeutic nursing interventions, levels of prevention and the nursing process are applied in a variety of nursing and acute care medical-surgical settings. Offered in the fall semester and in the summer for the ASP students. Prerequisites: NURS 134, SCIE 144, BIOL 206 AND BIOL 207, CHEM 105 OR CHEM 107 OR CHEM 108 OR CHEM 109
