SPMT 490 Sport Management Capstone
Capstone: Strategic Management of Sports Organizations
This course is designed to provide students with specific knowledge and skills related to the strategic management of sports and fitness organizations. The primary focus of the class is strategy development within organizations, which includes complementary course material deriving from various subdisciplines related to strategic thinking and decision-making, such as behavioral economics and game theory. Drawing upon gamification principles, the course involves numerous case studies and simulation exercises, which are used to develop managerial effectiveness and skills. In addition, students learn the importance of strategic management through a major project spanning a significant portion of the semester. The latter third of the semester emphasizes students transitioning to a professional and collegial role. The pedagogy for this course is experiential and competency-based.
