EDUC 202 Disability and Education

This course applies disability studies frameworks to provide students with a detailed introduction to the field of special education. Sociocultural understandings of disability and their effects on education are explored and analyzed throughout the semester. Disability in pre-K-12 public education is examined from multiple perspectives with emphasis on disabled experiences, activism, and advocacy. Four themes are covered throughout the semester: disability rights and accessibility, special education policy and practices, inclusive education methods, and critical contexts of special education. Offered every semester.
