BIOL 163 Human Biology
An introduction to biology as it applies to humans. Lecture topics include: homeostasis, cellular basis of life; structure and function of organs and organ systems; growth and development; human impact on the environment; and current health issues such as obesity, smoking, and infectious, autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases. Laboratory activities include examination of cells, tissues, organs and organ systems with a hands-on approach that reinforces lecture concepts. This course will provide a foundation helpful in the many aspects of a public-health career as well as in making informed personal-health decisions.
