High School Transcripts
Proof of High School Graduation
Students must provide proof of high school graduation, or equivalent, to be admitted to Hartwick College. Additionally, a final High School transcript is required to facilitate the financial aid disbursement process. Hartwick considers the following documents to serve as proof of secondary school graduation:
- A final high school transcript submitted directly from the student’s school. We will not accept a high school transcript submitted by the student. The final high school transcript must show the date of graduation. For students in a curriculum where national examinations or other certification signifies completion of high school those documents will be required as proof of graduation.
- If your high school operates on a different schedule and you cannot submit your graduation certificate or final exam results by the transcript deadline, we are happy to grant a limited extension.
- Students who are submitting final exam results as proof of graduation should ensure that these results are sent to us as soon as they have been released, and provide official certificates as soon as these are available.
- Results from the General Education Development (GED) Test. Students may submit GED results in lieu of a final high school transcript.
- Original or officially certified copies of nationally recognized high school graduation examination results, such as the Advanced Level General Certificate of Education or the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Hartwick reserves the right to request that a student submit an evaluation or authentication of their final transcript or examination results by an educational credential evaluation service.
- Admitted homeschooled students must either be able to provide evidence of a homeschool diploma, a certificate of completion that is considered the equivalent of a high school diploma in the applicant's home state, or they must complete and submit results of their GED test prior to enrollment.
For students who graduated from high school in the United States, final transcripts may be submitted in the following ways:
- Uploaded through the Common Application website by a school official.
- Sent directly to Hartwick through an electronic delivery service such as Parchment or National Student Clearinghouse.
- Mailed to Hartwick College, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, One Hartwick Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820, USA. All mailed transcripts and other proof of graduation documents, however, should bear an official stamp and signature and be mailed from a student's school in a sealed envelope.
- Emailed to transcripts@hartwick.edu. Emailed documents must include a graduation date, must come from a school official, and must be sent from an official school email address.
Applicants who have completed coursework, high school/secondary school or university-level, outside of the United States should submit a course-by-course evaluation of transcripts completed and forwarded to Hartwick College by a service.
Failure to Provide Proof of High School Graduation
For students who receive Title IV assistance:
For students who do not provide proof of high school or equivalent graduation by the admissions deadline, and who have not been granted a limited extension, this policy allows students to receive Title IV assistance for one term while waiting for a final high school transcript since they have already been admitted as a regular student.
These students are considered conditionally admitted for Title IV purposes. If the student does not provide a final high school transcript before the start of their second term (fall or spring, January is not included), then the student is no longer considered enrolled as a regular student and no further Title IV aid disbursements are permitted. However, neither the student nor the school must return Title IV funds that were disbursed while the student was conditionally admitted as a regular student.
For students who do not receive Title IV assistance:
Students who do not provide proof of high school or equivalent graduation by the admissions deadline, and who have not been granted a limited extension, must provide the appropriate documentation prior to the start of their second term (fall or spring, January is not included). If appropriate documentation is not provided by the start of the second term, the student will be withdrawn from Hartwick.
