SOCI 340 Socio-Political Movements
The course will provide an introduction to theory and research on one form of social movement mobilization: national-level movements organized for political change. Our focus will emphasize how political, organizational, and cultural factors shape social movement emergence and development. We will focus on current activism, including case studies of the American civil rights movement, the student movement of the late 1960s, the feminist movement, the abortion movement (pro-life and pro- choice) gay/lesbian mobilization and the recent emergence of transnational activism.
