SOCI 290 Cornerstone

This is a cornerstone course that aims to better prepare sociology and criminal justice majors for advanced coursework and writing academic papers in the discipline, and assist them with understanding their major field and its associated career options. This course will also develop students' ability to understand and operationalize the social world in sociological and criminological terms by introducing theory, research methods, current topics and debates in the discipline. Furthermore, students will learn how to conduct a literature review, search academic/scholarly articles, write a research paper, and cite correctly in sociological and criminological formats. This course will provide students an opportunity to build an intellectual community, connect with Hartwick alumni in relevant fields, and discuss concepts and research with other sociologists and criminologists.
