This course discusses the historical influences relating to the creation of the popular musical genre termed "rock and roll" and will center on the social and political conditions in the decades of the 1940s through the 1960s surrounding and contributing to the development of this specific musical style, its usefulness as a social statement, and possible reasons for its negative and / or positive reception.
