ENGL 202 Technical Writing
"Introduction to Technical Writing" offers an overview of the principles and practices of effective technical writing. "Technical writing" includes "instruction," "explanation," "summarization" and is characterized by brevity and precision of expression. Students will study and practice the genres of technical writing: for example, data summaries and clinical or scientific study reports; fellowship and research proposals; post-graduate application essays; memos; and instructional or explanatory manuals. Students will become versed in document design, audience analysis, and collaborative writing; they will also review APA formatting. This course will prepare students to communicate effectively, in print and electronic modes, within their professional disciplines.
