CRMJ 375 Crime Mapping

In this course, students will learn how to take crime data and create maps that provide a geospatial representation of those crimes. Crime mapping is a crucial skill for crime analysts as they work in tangent with law enforcement agencies. These maps allow others to determine the presence of hot spots and if certain crimes tend to cluster at a certain geographic point. Using ArcGIS, students will carry out selected crime analysis studies to determine the types of crime and levels of crime in an area. From those maps and analyses, they will then have to make recommendations as to what law enforcement should do to address those crime issues.
