ARTH 401 Northern Renaissance Art Hist
The art of the 15th and 16th centuries in the Netherlands and Germany represents a transitional period between the Middle Ages and the Baroque. The course traces shifts in patronage and the status of the artist, along with new developments in media (oil painting, graphics). From van Eyck to Bruegel, differing artistic expressions reflect the move to the modern world. Offered alternate years.
Prerequisite
ARTH 103 AND one other upper level art history course.
