PHIL 250 Tip/Skepticism

"It's all a matter of opinion." "There is no God, God is dead." "I only know that I don't know." In this course, these phrases, which have become the pedestrian slogans of our nihilistic age, will be thoroughly examined in the context of their true origins?the Western Skeptics. In particular, we will examine what it means to be a skeptic in regard to art, ethics, knowledge and existence. Goals: 1. Develop a deep understanding of some of the fundamental problems that plague skepticism. 2. Learn how to carefully read and listen to a philosophical text and 3. Learn how to articulate your thoughts on complex philosophical issues, both orally and on paper. No prerequisites.
