ENGL 248 HItchcock

A study of the films of Alfred Hitchcock, this course explores various aspects (cinematic, literary, psychological, and political) of the Hitchcockian metaphysic, with particular emphasis on his literary sources (including works by Poe, Mary Shelley, Stoker, Conrad, Buchan, and Du Maurier) and relationships with contemporaries such as Fritz Lang, Orson Welles, and Preston Sturges. Films include Blackmail, Sabotage, The Lady Vanishes, Rebecca, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Notorious, Rope, Strangers on a Train, Dial M for Murder, Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, and Psycho.
