CHEM 450 Advanced Organic Chemistry

Chemistry 450 TiC Advanced Organic Chemistry involves investigating the design and synthesis of pharmacologically interesting molecules while building on the chemical reactions and concepts learned in CHEM 201/CHEM 202. The synthesis of complex molecules will be accomplished by employing the retrosynthetic analysis strategy. Insights as to why the molecules are interesting targets will also be discussed. We will perform background research on the target molecules by searching the literature databases and cover peripheral topics such as pharmacology, law, and patents. Ultimately, the goal is to both learn new organic chemical reactions and apply classic organic reactions to build complicated molecules from simple, readily available starting materials.
