Depth and Choice Elective Courses (30 credits)

Working with an advisor, students are required to determine a concentration within the Environmental Studies and Sustainability major and develop a purposeful plan that adds depth that is aligned with the students overall goals. Popular concentrations are Environmental Health and Safety, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, and Environmental Management. Students may also build their own unique plan. Each student should take 30 credits (or more), including courses from ESST (minimum three), and two or more academic divisions. Need to include 2 or more 300-level courses. Double majors can count a maximum of three overlapping courses between ESST and their other major.

Note: The “Depth and Choice” component represents essentially 8-10 courses for each student major from the list below, but other upper level courses of any major can be considered in consultation with the ESST coordinator

Moreover, many professors would be willing to waive the prerequisites of “Depth and Choice” courses for majors in Environmental Studies and Sustainability if the major has already completed at least three of the nine foundational courses at the time of enrollment.
